Welcome to summer and again a note of caution. Remember to lock your cars and be aware that you should never leave any items of value in your vehicle. I was told today from a neighbour that another neighbours car was broken into close to the park. I'm sure it wasn't a random occurence and as I've just returned from some R&R it wasn't one of our vehicles.
Again, please lock your car. Don't leave valuables in your vehicles and if you have older kids out and about remind them that vandalism isn't cool....
Thanks and enjoy the (hopefully) warm, dry summer weather.
Cheers!
Also heard that someone on Tallships had stuff taken from their car - seems like it is all over the neighbourhoold
and if you have older kids out and about remind them that vandalism isn't cool....??
Vandalism is Michief which is a Criminal ARRESTABLE offence.
Maybe it be better to go that route with the kids and teaching respect of fellow neighbors property.
Just a suggestion.
I believe it was just change taken from an unlocked car
My car on our driveway was broken into last night and had my cds, MP3 players and some loonies stolen. My street is off Seaboard gate near Portage park. Watch your car and be alert.
Further to Porch Light ON, make sure that you keep all valuables out of sight, or better still, in your house. They will break in for a Loonie that is seen on the seat. Again, what do we have garages for? If at all possible, clean out that garage and use it for your vehicle. It makes it one step further to deter these individuals.
We had a neighbour who lost some things out of their unlocked car...please call Durham Regional Police to make a report. Apparently, they go through their reports once a month looking for clusters or trends (it is considered theft from vehicle under 5000 on the DRP website). The more people that make reports from WS, the more we show up on the police radar for patrols, etc?
Any idea what kind of car it was?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but police officers laugh when people make reports over a few dollars stolen from vehicles. A few car break ins with not increase the amount of patrols in the neighborhood as the police are usually more occupied with finding bigger violations.
I find it hard to believe that you would say police officers that laugh at a call are just as bad as the criminals themself. Since when is laughing a criminal offense?
I did not say the police wouldnt take the report - of course they will - but it will be placed very low on the priority list. If its worth your time to spend hours waiting for the police to file a report on a few missing dollars, then by all means go ahead.
I think the lesson here should be that we should all lock our vehicles.
I can't speak for Kellybean but suspect the comment about officers laughing wasn't meant to be taken literally.
