So leaving the shores today, we were passing by Portage and Seaboard and noticed that the corner house (the south east corner) had the fence "knocked" down.

Right away my husband guessed that it was probably a car, although I wasn't too sure. Anyway, we drove around to the other side and saw tire marks.....

Tonight when we returned (8:20pm), DRP were there taking pictures of the scene.

Just wondering if anyone else has a better idea of exactly what happened? We have all been saying for a long time that something bad was going to happen (especially at that intersection). .... sad!
From what I heard:

At around 3-4 o'clock in the morning, a car going south on Seaboard failed to stop. It crashed through the fence, bounced off the sidewalk running along the house and came through the second section of the fence (that's the why there are two holes in the fence). The car tried to escape and it did but it left its license plate behind Smile So the cops would have no problems tracing the owner down.

I'm wondering if it's a resident of the Shores or a visitor. Of course we can give him/her the benefit of doubt and say that maybe the brakes failed... I'm leaning toward being totally careless, or even worse, drunk. If that's the case, I hope they get what they deserve.

The tire marks don't look like they are wide enough to be a car..maybe a Mini? Too funny about the license plate.

Not sure what the official word is yet but I've heard that along with the license plate being 'hilariously' left behind at the scene of the crime, the car itself was found abandoned somewhere else in the neighbourhood. I'm not sure what that means or whether the accident was caused by drunk-driving, joyriding or a combo of the two but hopefully the DRP catch the hu-MAN responsible ...

... and hopefully the unlucky neighbours get a shiny new and improved fence really soon ;o)
I'd be careful with the insinuation about men being aggressive/careless/drunk drivers as the hu-MEN in the neighbourhood and on this BB who are very good drivers might take of-FENCE. LOL. Seriously though, how can you be sure it was a male?

Jordan.

I can't be sure it was a male which is why I said hu-MAN to imply that it's not necessarily a man (but I were a betting man ....)
Jabber,

I'm a guy and I would assume it was a man too. The facts are that we (as guys) are much more careless (i.e. dumber) when it comes to things like that. The vast majority of drunk drivers are men, we are "leaders" in drowning statistics, we are undisputed champions in winning the "Darwinians" etc. I would love to have a great discussion over a few beers what that's the case but it's hard to dispute the numbers.

Well, at the very least you should say that you are speaking for yourself. It depends a great deal on the person regardless of the sex. There is no way to be sure that this was done by a man regardless of what the actuaries tell us.

Jordan,

I'm not exactly sure I'm following you. Of course it depends on a person! Nowhere I said that you can be sure it was a man. But since it was MUCH more likely to be a man, I'm inclined to think so. That's all.

Alright. So following along. I guess being a law abiding, upstanding, family oriented example of the male version of the human species, I take offence to being grouped with the drunk/stoned/judgement impaired group of males that the actuaries tell us we are. And I relish the idea of getting together over beer/wine to discuss the male/female differences. We should. Goes back to my way earlier post dealing with a neighbourhood "pub night" somewhere close. No drunk driving please! LOL.

It's funny how when we as Whitby Shores folk have "normal" events occurr in our backyard we react so strongly. I think it's great and I think it defines our community!

Let's work towards that....
