Kitty

My husband and I love living in this community and we are expecting our first child in February.

We want to move to a larger house in the subdivision in a few years but only if there is a school here by then.

We are not fans of West Lynde.

Are we ever going to get a school?  I know that the number of kids is tallied and logged each year but what is the real reality of there being a school built here in the next four years?

Does anyone know?
Hi Kitty,

I asked the DDSB planner for the new numbers of how many students we have in WS going to school in Durham public schools. They don't count kids going out of Durham, private, or Catholic system, and that hurts our numbers. Once I have the new numbers I plan to present to the DDSB on why we should have a school again.

What will help us significantly is the development of the old hospital lands.. those homes would add enought kids to justify a school easily. We were suppose to know by June but has been delayed.

There are other factors as well but it's mostly a numbers game.

I've aslo asked for details on the future development on Victoria but it's in the early stages of development. That will also help our numbers assuming they have no school.

fyi, I have one in SK, and for Grade 1 we are leaning towards Stephenson as it is not overcrowded and based on the provincial scores it seemed to do well. Just the fact they have a school web site tells me they are with the times. A couple of catches here: 1. no bussing from the DDSB and 2. it's not our home school so you'd need to get approval.
