I am all for that - as we normally visit there now there anyway to let our pup run free for a bit.... but unfortunately Saturday we aren't around - if you can get a group going - go for it. If not I'd be up for next Saturday for sure! They'd probably just show up and give us all fines...
I think the IDEA of turning that unused school land into an unleashed dog area is nice.. however don't ever see it happening, as much as may talk or joke about it. The town of Whitby doesn't seem to rushed to give us a park such as this, and I can understand people in the neighbourhood being opposed to it, although I am sure I speak for each dog owner who would love to just being able to walk down the street and tire their dog out a bit, not to mention it's just nice to be social and dog parks are a great way to chat with people with a common interest.
The diamond is a nice fenced off area, which makes it semi secure,,,there were no other comments, so I'm happy to let the topic rest. I have no further comments on the subject, thankyou
Let’s face it; the town will never put aside space in south Whitby for a dog run. The population base is way too small and land too scarce. The most logical place would be somewhere in the north where most of the people are.
The Ajax dog run is on the site of the former town dump. There is not much other viable use for this land.
but I have seen one too many news reports on poor little children being bitten and attacked by "friendly" neighbourhood dogs.
Have you ever thought how many of those animals are tormented by the children before biting them. I have seen many a child try to poke a dog's eye or torment it. I agree dogs should not be allowed to run wild but parents also need to teach their children to respect animals. They need to ask permission to pet the dog.
aren't dogs supposed to be therapeutic? I've seen many hospitals, retirements homes, etc asking for volunteers to bring pets in to let the patients see them and pet them.... a piece of land at WMHC would be ideal (enclosed of course!) and just think of the joy some patients could get by looking out their window and seeing a bunch of dogs playing freely.... most times the patients are friendly enough when I walk by to get to the lakefront trail and always call out to my dog.... or want to pet him.
We do go to the Ajax off lease park quite regularly (sometimes daily).. but would be nice to be able to walk somewhere versus factoring in a 30 mins commute to and from Ajax....
I would not consider dogs (some of them quite large) running lose very calming.

Bratz didn't suggest the dogs run freely - he said in an enclosed area. I agree there is nothing more heartwarming than seeing dogs having fun and if the patients don't want to look then they don't have to. They can go to some other part of the prime real estate they live on and smoke their disgusting cigarettes leaving butts all over the place.

Actually Risky, I don't have a dog nor do I want one. Incredibly high maintenance creatures for what I percieve you get in return...
I don't know what you percieve you get in return but I can tell you - you will get more from a dog than from any human. What two legged creature do you know that loves you unconditionally (unfortunately in some case no matter how badly treat them).
Maybe you should go to a dog park and see how much love and affection dogs give back in return for what we give them.
