Hey all. I went to get a glass of water last night and didn't go the usual fridge water filter route. I went straight to the tap. After a few sips and my 3 year daughter making faces I asked my wife to taste the water. And we all agreed that it was like drinking bleach. Is that normal? I haven't had water from the tap in quite a while and I know it is usually pretty bad in the summer. But man that was horrible! I have walked past the water filtration plant on the boardwalk at Heydenshore Park and have been amazed at the stench of chlorine. The water just seems to be a little too clear over there... I have always wanted to get the effluent analyzed just to confirm my hunch. So I guess I'm curious if this horrible tasting water is normal and if it is then why?
There's no need for whitening toothpaste if this is the norm!
Jabber.
Our family doesn't drink Whitby water for that very reason. I guess they have to pump it all the way to Brooklin so there has to be a lot of chlorine. Whitby water is horrible.
I'm sure having a steel plant effluent pipes next to the water plant intake pipe wasn't the smartest idea.
Just think of all those heavy metals fortifying your body.Mmmmm-Mmmm goodness!
We buy large waterbottles and use dispenser.
Cheers
I would love to see our water tested. I don't drink it either. I think I could bleach my whites with a sink full of our "drinking" water.
We have a filter and also use bottled water. Last summer, we noticed that the water smelled of Hydrogen Sulphide (smelled like rotten eggs)
.
Bundo .. good idea to have the water tested ...
City of Whitby will not give us straight answers.
I dont mind the water???
But I heard bottled water isnt much better for you....does anyone have a Brita Tap dispenser attachment?
I think anyone can get their water tested....but also test the bottled water you drink. You want answers and there are ways to get them - you may not like any of the results though.
We've had our water tested but I don't recall the results or who tested it (it was for a water purification system). I thought the way they tested seemed a bit off - like they rigged it to show exactly what they wanted it to show. I don't think it cost anything because they were trying to sell the system so the testing was part of their demonstration.

Had that done some years ago and probably the same people as you. They were trying to sell the system.

Bottled water is not better because one does not know how long it has been sitting in the plastic bottle.
Every once in awhile water in Whitby tastes and smells like chlorine - it used to make my face breakout back in the day when I was a teenager (yes, I've been in Whitby a very, very long time)
Most of the time it happens in the summer when the algae builds up. You can actually call the town and report it, and sometimes that seems to help, sometimes not. It tends to come and go.
Last year when my father was at the Whitby hospital there was a period of time when he was given bottled water. Apparently the usual tap water wasn't up to par for those with less than good health. Scary for the rest of us.
Very scary ... I just started weaning my daughter ... guess I will have to boil the water to make her formula ...
