I think Whitby is actually considering parking permits.
I saw in the Whitby paper they are currently having a study done. I don't like the idea as we all pay too much in tax as it is already.
A couple of months ago I filled out a questionaire on the issue at the Whitby Rec Centre. They were asking do I think parking permits should be issued etc. They may try to slip it threw.
Keep your eyes and ears open and say NO to parking permits! It just another form of taxation!
Holy Crap! Too many people park on the street as it is. The only thing keeping our neighbourhood from turning into the parking lot of a used car dealer is the three hour time limit on parking. My street is ok but I walk down some streets near by and I'm glad I didn't end up there, it's terrible. Temporary street parking is fine but your permanent spot should not be on the street. If you can't fit all your vehicles in your drive way/garage you bought the wrong house.
I agree with Gusto. Get your cars off the streets. Having permits would just encourage more people to park on the street.
I have a neighbour that parks at the bottom of my driveway everyday!!! I hope they start ticketing and towing not permitting!!! The other day the plow came by and just buried his car....he was sooo mad but he has plenty of room in his driveway so I dont feel sorry for him.
Last week, I sent the following email to the town of Whitby
The Town of Whitby's Traffic By-Law, By-Law 1862-85 is designed to maintain safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the residents and visitors of the Town
Enforcement is currently NOT directed towards vehicles that interfere with the movement of cars, pedestrians, maintenance duties or impede the accessibility of emergency vehicles.
During the recent snow storm, several cars were parked on my street .. NONE OF THEM WERE TICKETED. The snow plough trucks had to maneuver around these parked cars.
The leftover snow on the road turns to ice and it becomes dangerous.
This law is a joke if it is not being enforced. I have lived on my street for 7 years and NOT one car has been ticketed yet.
When will the city start enforcing this law and ticket all the cars that are wrongly parked. The streets do not have a "no parking signs". I suggest that is the first step that should be taken.
Thank you
And the response was ...
Currently, the traffic by-law in the the Town of Whitby is enforced on a complaint basis, including those complaints generated from snow plow operators. If you would like to provide the name of the street you live on, I can direct enforcement in that area. I will also be able to provide you with information of any previous enforcement activities on your street.

THEREFORE, IN ORDER TO CLEAR THE STREETS OF THESE PARKED VEHICLES,
WE WILL NEED TO INITIATE A COMPLAINT AND ONLY THEN (hopefully),
THE VEHICLES WILL BE TICKETED.

That is totally them just placating us. My husband and I have called on several occasions about cars on our street that block our garbage pick-up and they have done nothing. Did they give you a number to call to complain?

I have had my wife call in a complaint before and people got tickets. Now my street is much better. I would suggest everybody do this if they notice that people are using the street as a permanent parking lot.
