As a heads up, we had an unwanted visitor last night around midnight on Tallships.

As we were about to drift off the sleep, our doorbell rang. Our security system (large dog) kicked in to action and roared to the door barking.

By the time we looked out the bedroom window to confirm that no cars were in the driveway, the doorbell had rang a couple more times.

I went down to see what was up, with the dog still letting the person know he was there! Because of the frosted windows, I could not get a really good look at the guy, but I asked him through the door what he wanted.

He was rambling some nonsense, and seemed confused. After asking/telling him he needed to leave, and that I wasn't opening the door, we called 911.

Impressively, the police arrived in front of our house within no more than 2-3 minutes. During that period, from what I can tell, it appeared that the "guest" sat down on the porch.

When the officer arrived, she called him over, and after speaking to him for a few mins, put him in the back of the cruiser and drove off.

Not being sure if they were going to come back, looking for a statement or anything from us, we called the police back (on the non-emerg number). They said that the officer had taken him to the Oshawa holding cell, and that they wouldn't be coming back unless we felt there was a need.

The call taker indicated that the police were "very familiar" with this individual, so it appears he makes a habit of this type of thing.

Just a heads up....to always keep your doors loocked! This guy appeared pretty unstable, and wasn't fazed at all by me telling him to leave, nor by the large dog barking like mad. I have little doubt that had the door been unlocked, he would have let himself in.
Yet another example of the benefit of living so close to the Whitby Psych. Not that I'm pointing fingers but I was accosted (okay stopped) by a woman in our new plaza two days ago asking where she could buy a coffee... "Um, Tim Horton's, right over there" I said. Then she promptly asked me for the money to buy a coffee. LOL. Take the good with the bad I guess. And there seems to be way more good than bad... I have a friend who works in Real Estate in Oakville and when I mentioned that I live in Whitby Shores he said "Ohhh... I know that place. Very popular..." {:-)>

Jabber.

That same woman approached me the other night when I walked over to pickup my daughter from her work... she asked me for ten bucks so I pulled out some change from my pocket, she wasn't impressed. Then in front of my daughter she asked me if I wanted to go on a date?!!! I have to admit she surprised the both of us...so I replied that she wasn't my type, thinking I got the last word. She pulls her dentures out and says to me, Am I your type now *%#hole!! We couldn't believe it. Still love livin here!!

You will want to do that, George.....you know the security system that I am referring to!   His name is Ben!

Thats scary!
I am glad the situation was taken care of so quickly.
I hope this "visitor" never finds his way to my house and rings my doorbell at night. I am the wife of a Toronto Police Officer and would be scared to death that it was the police coming to notify me something had happened in the line of duty to my husband.
Oh the joys....
I also had a unwanted visitor last night on Tallships around 3am..door bell rang twice and the dog went nuts. Looked outside and couldn't see anyone so I called police and they responded quickly...they looked around and couldn't find anybody. Be vigilant and keep a lookout for strangers in our community.
