Anybody know when the groundbreaking for this 20 year project will happen? I've searched the net extensively and can't find any firm dates. I DID notice a fence went up at the nw corner of Bayside Gate & Victoria.
I think there's a gas station goin there.
Did anyone else receive the "Notice of Public Meeting" in the mail yesterday? It is scheduled for April 21st @ 7:50pm.

Nordeagle Developments is proposing to change the land use designation so that they can get this project underway.

Exciting!

I'm assuming you're referring to ECOplace "excitement" and not gas station...

Also, I heard they're moving the IROQUOIS TENNIS COURTS.  Anyone know why/where to?

it also looks like they are planning on expanding onto the soccer fields at the corner of Gordon/Victoria...there goes our quiet little community.
George,

Where to you seem the expanding onto the soccer fields?  I don't see it anywhere, and would be shocked if the Town, who owns the land that the soccer fields are on, would relinquish that space at this time.  Soccer fields are in high demand every summer, and the Town has recently been developing new soccer fields, not taking them away.

For those interested, here is the link to the Nordeagle proposal:

I have followed up with the planning department on the letter that community members received with the larger outline then the proposed lands for the ECOplace.

The delineation of the area on the document is not being proposed for any land usage changes. It is the 'central area' directly around the lands of the developer.

Soccer fields are not changing and nor is Iroquois Park.

I hope this clarifies the drawing; also please feel free to contact the planning department at the town for any questions or concerns that you have; or send me a message and I will get answers back to you.

Thank you Elizabeth, I received the letter in mail and when I saw the drawing with part of the soccer field included in the outline, I just assumed that was included. Ok ...lets see now, we have the WMHC site, the Henry/Victioria sts. site, the marina site and the site north of Victoria. This is going to be one busy area when this is all done...I can't wait to see what they plan on doing about the infastructor. Always can count on you Elizabeth to get to the bottom of things.
Would someone be so kind and show us a scan of this document linking the new development with the soccer fields?

After reading all the posts concerning the Ecoplace I'm finding it hard to believe that anyone in Whitby Shores finds it exciting. The idea that 30 to 40 apartment buildings at 20 storeys each, housing 14,000 residents would in any way benefit the residents of this area is a little ridiculous. And let's not forget the people who will be working in the proposed office tower and hotel etc. etc. Saving a few dollars in property taxes certainly won't make up for the congestion in the area. The Planning Department document that we all received clearly states that  the proposed development would include the applicant's land as well as other lands. The 'other lands'  is clearly marked on the plan to include the soccer field. Although the current proposal does not include these lands, the future plan is to develop them. If you would like to continue to live in a clean and safe area please consider attending on Monday, Aprol 21st in the Council Chambers of the Whitby Municipal Building. Thanks for your time

Even though the current plans don't include the Sobeys and Automodular warehouses, it must be assumed that the developer has very, very strong plans to purchase those properties to build more condos, etc. Does anyone really believe they plan on building all of these condo towers that look out over 2 massive warehouse roofs and loading bays filled with semi transport trucks? Who'd buy a unit with that view (and noise ... backup signals are really annoying and the sound would easily be heard by anyone facing the buildings)?

It's that sort of short sited planning and piecemeal development that proove they have plans they aren't telling us about. I don't doubt that if the development gets up and running, a proposal won't be far behind to develop the corner of the soccer fields into retail. I'm not opposed to the Ecoplace place concept, just it's scale and I believe we are on a slippery slope. If they are allowed to start phase 1 without all of the required studies in place, I do think it will set a precedent for the area and will allow them to push other plans through whose impact also hasn't been studies properly.

..... and leave the soccer fields alone!
