The developers of ECOPlace are Saverio Montemarano and Mario Cortellucci. Do your own research. I did just a little, and turned up two interesting facts to consider:
1. These developers are generous fundraisers and contributors to both Jim Flaherty and the Conservative Party.
The Star reported in May 2003 that "between 1995 and 2001, the Cortellucci group of family companies and related businesses, through at least 24 different entities, have donated more than $600,000 to the provincial Tory party. Donations to the 2002 Tory leadership race and individual Cortellucci family and business associate contributions bring the total to nearly $1 million. In 1999 alone — the year of the last provincial election — the Cortellucci group donated more than $263,000 through more than a dozen business interests. The same
Cortellucci companies gave nothing to the Liberals or NDP."
2. Mario Cortellucci has also dangled the promise of new jobs and econiomic development in exchange for "developer friendly" changes to zoning regulations and city planning to create GTA style development in Simcoe County (see http://www.thestar.com/News/article/270681). These proposed changes would have increased the housing density by 400% over what the province would allow.
Forewarned is forearmed people.
