--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A veteran police officer of the DRPS is recovering at home after separating his shoulder during an arrest of a mentally ill man last night.

On Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008, at approximately 11:30 p.m. an officer from 17 Division (Oshawa) was dispatched to the Oshawa GO transit station on Thornton Road regarding a male who was exposing himself.

The 20-year veteran approached the male and the suspect attempted to run from the scene. The officer caught up to the suspect and suffered a separated shoulder while taking the suspect to the ground.

Further investigation revealed that the 38-year-old suspect had been reported missing from the WMHC hours before and had left letters behind indicating he was going to harm himself. He was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. It was later discovered that he had taken a quantity of pills and was transported to Lakeridge Health – Oshawa. Once at the hospital, the male had a seizure and hit his head on the floor. He was held for a mental assessment.

The officer was treated at hospital and released.

The DRPS would like to thank two citizens, including one of who assisted in the handcuffing and the search of the suspect. An X-Acto knife was discovered and seized during the search.
Sounds perfectly harmless. Why waste money on a home security alarm ... yikes!!!

How are WMHC protecting the community they reside in?

The Town of Whitby and Durham Regional Police need to sit down together and come up with a security plan. Whitby Mental Health are not capable of doing it on their own!
We have kids down here and should demand action now!

I'm sure we can ask Chris Bovie so he can explain all that misinformation! Chris, back to you.

And that explains the helicopter flying around WMHC that night. They circled for close to an hour... Scary but I take at least a little bit of comfort in the fact that most escapees both mentally stable and unstable usually flee the immediate area.

Jabber.
