As a sidebar to their "Schools in Peril Across Ontario" article, TheStar.ca/ParentCentral.ca gave school-by-school stats for enrolment vs. capacity for all GTA school boards. You can find all their links here, and stats for the Durham District School board here.

It seems to me that while other boards in Toronto are having trouble maintaining enough enrolment to keep schools open, Durham is having the opposite problem. A large number of the schools on the list are enrolled significantly over capacity.

For anyone who's curious, West Lynde P.S. is listed at 126.55% utilization. Of all the Whitby schools in the report, only three are listed as not overcapacity.
Hey, they are great links. It goes to show how underfunded Durham and the rest of 905 actually is. Good one
The article in the Whitby This Week was about closing FM Heard. Nothing definite but it's being discussed. It is a popular school and almost 30% over capacity. It doesn't seem to matter. What is the criteria for closing a school??

I haven't seen the article, but I'm curious to know if making our new school a French Immersion school is under consideration. I'm definitely in favour of that.

Unlikely our new school will be French Immersion or dual track at this point:
