Maybe instead of a homeowner's association it would be more politically effective to start a Lynde Shores/Port Whitby Environmental Protection group. It would also allow for a more inclusive, wider ranging public membership (higher numbers means louder voices). Could even solicit help from the groups who fought to protect Rouge Valley from further development, not to mention how it would draw the attention of the media since environmental protection is a sexy topic right now.

This is one smart suggestion. I'm a homeowner looking forward to seeing this development happen, but I'm on board for taking care of environmental matters first and formost and would join in to help. (see, you've manipulated me already just by the name change!)

Anyone wanting my support to oppose this development needs to prove that there are bigger issues than that it will take you longer to drive to work or that you won't get a seat on the train. I feel sorry for you, but not my problem. Besides, I thought we were supposed to  move away from that lifestyle anyway. I would have loved to live downtown Toronto with all it has to offer, but we moved to Whitby because this was where the work was and we didn't want to add to the transportation mess that already existed.   Personally, the more services we get in our backyard the happier I'll be.

It also worries me that on several occasions getting this development  has been compared to getting a Scarborough Town Center. Did I miss something and we're getting a very large mall as well, or has the comparision been made because Scarborough has a bad reputation and it is a good scare tactic?

These lines of defense really get my back up and then I tend to ignore all the truly valid points people are trying to make. Stick to the issues that will impact us all and you'll get wider support (and as a indirect result maybe that seat on the train!)

The Enviromental aspect is an excellent idea however in order for any objections to any aspect of Ecoplace to be recognized they must be made before 4:30 pm Monday April 28, 2008. Please email Robert B. Short, Director of Planning at 'planning@whitby.ca' and also Mayor Perkins at
'council@whitby.ca' You should reference "Planning Report, PL 53-08 Application to Amend the Town ofWhitby Official Plan and Zoning By-law 2585 (Z-05-08) N/E corner of Victoria Street West and Montecorte Street"
Incluse your name and address and any issues involving your objection to Phase 1 of this project. If Phase 1 gets approved in it's present form all other phases will probably go through. Please consider taking a few minutes to do this and get the word out to as many people as possible
Easy fix.  Just submit an objection as both a WSHA and LSPWEP Group before the deadline.  If both groups can be organized before the next meeting then great.  If not, it's not then it falls off the agenda.  It's not like they'll fine you or anything.

Aren't there any "kids from the 60's" out there?  Anyone who "took it to the streets"? (me ... I'm an 80's kid ... but I never had the Flock of Seagulls hairdo)

BTW ... as I said before, like She Sells Seashells I'm not opposed to development of the land and think it'd be great for Whitby.  I just want to make sure it's done properly to ensure the appropriate infrastructure and environmental considerations are taken care of.
Neither is a priority right now if you dont know how residents feel.

I am not opposed to development but I am opposed to the scale or this development and the others planned at the same time.

This will effect EVERYONES quality of life in some way.

I am confused how someone can be for this project but is only concerned about the environmental side of things.

I take all things into consideration in regards to this project not just a piece of the pie.

Again... you have to start from the basics.
See how homeowners and residents feel.

The Homeowners Association has not worked well in the past as many persons feel that they have no problems here and usually someone else can handle it.

This is a project ALL residents can get involved in. The goal is to
have a say in the ECOPLACE development. The time taken to set up
a HOA can be better spent organziing this. As you get many residents involved, ask them if they would like to help out forming a HOA , then you have a base of residents to form a HOA.

ONE task at a time has to be done.

Thanks for your time.
