Hi Folks...

Not sure how many people know this, but the Town is also undertaking a full review of the Official Plan for Whitby.  There have been some public meetings, with more to come.

Of particular interest is the "Introductory Discussion Paper" produced by the town planners...Found at:

http://www.town.whitby.on.ca/index.php?Q=257K01V03

It references the fact that although Places to Grow may require additional residential lands, there is also a long term need for quality industrial/prestige business park land in order to bring good employers to Whitby.

In fact, the Whitby planners argue that such industrial/prestige business park land should be protected for their intended use and not converted to mixed use or residential use (as the ECOPlace developers are asking).

Further proof that the ECOPlace plans are in conflict with what the Town itself has said that it needs/wants.

The conversion of the land from industrial/prestige business park to mixed use/residential benefits the developer because residential land is worth much more than industrial land. With the sweep of a pen, they are asking the Town to increase their investment many times over despite the fact that the official planners do not approve of such conversions.

Let's make sure the Gordon/Victoria lands are developed intelligently, as they were intended to be and with a view to bringing good jobs to Whitby.

All thoughts welcomed...
I believe the Town of Whitby does not have any offiicial plan for waterfront development. There is NO vision of hwat the waterfront should be other than the ECO place developement.
Let's not have business determine what our collective waterfront should look like in the future. There is only one waterfront and once it's gone, it's gone.

There was NO plan in the past when they Town decided to put the water treatement plant directly on the shoreline further splitting the waterfront.

I imagine in the future the Town will have to expand the treatment facility to where exactly is anyones guess.

The steel plant is an eyesore who's problems will only be realized in the next generation of our children.

Oakville, Ajax and other centres have put thought into they're waterfronts and it shows.

Let's get together and add out thoughts to the Town's master plan to include a future waterfront we all can be proud of.
