Has anybody used any of the garbage pickup services? I Know we are allowed one free special pickup per calendar year, but I called the town and they are pretty restrictive. I just had hardwood floors put in and I have all the carpet and crap along with other stuff. The town let's you throw out 12 items and you have to give an itemized list. All carpet must be rolled up an the pieces cannot be more than 4 feet long.

If it's only about $30 for a truck load from one of these companies, I would rather take that route.
take it to the dump...it's easier and cheaper
Hey George, I would have done that, but I don't have the pickup trcuk anymore.

let me know and you can use my van...
Or we can just use George's van Cool

Well, I just cut the carpet up into 4ft pieces and called the city to pick it up. They aren't coming until June 2nd. I do have a few other item to get rid of. I called the Garbage Guys and left a message, but haven't heard back.

Combining our crap is a great idea. What street are you on? I'm on Portage. If a pickup is reasonable, I will cancel the city pickup.

Spot I am in the same boat with all that carpet rolled up (and I really dont feel like unrolling them to cut them to 4ft)! I wonder if we can split the cost and do it together using the $30 company???

Hi Tornado,

I think I'll do the same as Cakcam and put everything out for the 2nd Of June and see if the town pickup hauls it all away. We may as well try that and then have whatever they don't take picked up........or we use George's van Cool
Today was the pickup. I had 10 pieced of rolled carpet, many a lot longer than the 4 feet the town says. I had 6 metal chair frames, I ducked taped 3 together so that they might count as 1 piece. that worked. I also had all the cardboard boxes from the hardwood flooring I put everything on.

They took everything !!!!!

Let me know how it goes! Good Luck!

Yes, I was impressed, considering how the regular pickup can be so picky.

I wonder if the special pickup drivers are even given the list of items. When I booked they said that June 2nd was the next scheduled one. I maing they have a bi-weekly or monthly schedule for this. In Ajax you are allowed two big items every garbage pickup!

Two big items every garbage pickup??? Really??? We need to get on that band wagon!

Residents can arrange for one free special collection per calendar year, for up to 12 items such as home appliances, furniture, mattresses or other household items too big to fit into a garbage bag.
Subsequent special collections can be arranged at a cost of $25.00 per collection.
Residents must call to arrange:
Public Works Department
905-668-3437
Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Large items must not exceed 4 ft in length or weigh more than 20 kg, (exception for applicances and furniture)
There is a $20.00 fee for collection of household applicances that contain chlorofluorocarbons(CFC’s). This cost is for the extraction of CFC’s.
Refrigerator and freezer doors must be secured when placed at the curb. Use tape or rope to secure doors from opening, do not remove the doors and do not place any other waste materials inside.
Note: This special collection program does not include vehicle parts, HHW, demolition or renovation waste materials, organics or recyclables.

No problem. If I had my pickup truck still, I would have hauled it away for you.
