The three towers in the original proposal are slab buildings...it will look like a big wall...please do your homework, this battle was lost years ago and you can thank the elected officials who approved it back then. Ditto for Whitby Shores, we couldn't fight that battle and protect the wetlands when that was proposed either. I would prefer the new plan with point towers (prefer them to be shorter tho) than the old garbage that the Town has accepted already and could be built right now if we're not very careful. If we could stop the entire thing we would, we are way more affected than anyone because we reside in the original community which goes back to the 1800's. The Town Of Whitby missed the boat so to speak many years ago when they failed to purchase the island in the harbour at a reasonable price.

Hi ...
With respect, I have done my homework and I have reviewed the original approved plan, the revised plan and the Port Whitby Secondary Plan. But with the Mayor on board, is there not an opportunity to work with the developer for the original density but using the revised architecture (with the top floors looking like sails...)?
Is the visual or architectual design dependent upon height? The drawings in the revised proposal look very interesting and could be built at 15 stories. The regional consultant report on Places to Grow recommends a "waterfront village" be built in Whitby. Let's ask the Mayor and Council to fight for that chance.

Hi Dee...Yes, this is the ECOPlace development at Gordon and Victoria...many of us attended a meeting back in April and there have not been any official updates since that time. The Council directed the developer to go back and produce a lot more data before the matter could be considered.

Quote from the Star article:
"The whole community supports it. We're hearing `how soon can you do it?' " says Montemarano, who has "a host of major corporations ready to move in.""
Which planet is he living on ????

I think my favorite part of this story so far is the fact that in February 2007, Montemarano and Nordeagle were trying to sell their land to the region as the ideal location for the new energy from waste facility (incinerator)
...and then they were turned down by the Region in March 2007...
...and magically, only 3-4 months later, they are selling the town on the idea that they have researched, designed and gotten community/corporate buy-in for using this land as the ideal place to build the community of the future (which will set the new standard for urban development).
Wow...these guys must be awesome multi-taskers!
