It is pretty sad considering the taxes we pay!!!

While the orange fence isn't the nicest to look at right now, I'm sure it's there to allow the natural grasses and wildflowers to take hold. In the end, it will probably look like the rest of the trail along Whitby Shores but it needs time to establish itself. Things take time so why don't we give them the benefit of the doubt.

Weeds are what show up in your garden. In a natural setting they're called wildflowers ;o)
Funny but true. If you look along the lake, almost all of the plants growing would be pulled out of our gardens as weeds. Eventually, Eggert park will be filled with weeds but we'll hopefully all be commenting on how beautiful it turned out.
I believe they started assembling the benches this morning (Friday) and they may have come from IKEA ... or not, but they did come in big boxes and were being assembled on site. Hopefully the directions were easy to follow.

Hawks, I could not agree more. I think we have enough weed/wildflower fields around the subdivision. When the town said they were putting in a park in that area, I too expected a lawn and area where families/people could play catch, etc.
The "fence" is pointless, at this point it's been pushed down and everyone is stepping over it to use the path. It seems like the town decided to cut costs here and go with the wildflower look to save maintenance $$.
Also, what is with that "tree" at the corner there near the stop sign? Did the town actually put that in? It looks ridiculuous at about 3 feet tall. Seriously, what the heck??

Hello All,
The delay in getting this project done has been with the landscaper; with the original seed put down it has taken time to get the landscaper back to correct what was done wrong. Staff have been working on this to get it corrected.
The orange fence is to be removed and the grass that is to be in place is a grass that will cut down the weeds and also retains water into the roots and can go longer between cuttings (I know you don't see that right now).
The hospital has not been a factor in this one bit; the intent is as Caroline outlined and that this area is to be a grassed area with the benches to sit; not the weeds that you see now.
Please be patient it will be done; I do know what the present park situation looks like as I have been frequenting Whitby Shores with all of the proposals coming forward at planning; but also with the concerns of the park.
Liz

Personally,,,I'm extremely disappointed. Even though I am on Seaboard Gate,,I expected to see a nice parkette at the bottom of Lighthouse.
What I see is a field like the conservation area,,,,,and we had to pay extra to get it. On top of that,,,,it's taking forever to complete,,,,unless the orange fence is part of the ambiance,,,lol.
For what we have, it's taking to long to complete.
I can't help think that the hospital/smoking issue has a big part to play in all this.
I think we all need to get together and have our own parkette opening ceremony,,,and tear down the fence.
This long weekend of course , was the perfect time for it.

This is all and good but it would be very nice if for the time being, they at least take down the fence (ASAP) and cut the two feet on either side of the paths so at least it looks presentable and the neighbourhood can enjoy the new parkette before the snow flies.

I'm glad to hear from Elizabeth that the intent for the end product is still a parkette with grass, rather than an extension of the surrounding wildflowers/weeds. The new type of grass sounds interesting, too. However, does this mean that they need to re-seed and start all over, as this does not appear to be the seed mix that is currently there? If so, it seems that this will result in a delay of another year (unless they try re-seeding it this fall which seems unlikely) and more orange fence?

I think when they say grass they still mean long grass (maybe like a wheat field ;o) but other than that, I have no clue.

Hello Hawk; Please hold off on the chopping away of the weeds. Staff in parks and recreation have confirmed with me that the landscaper is to be back on site Monday Sept 8th.
As for the height of the grass the expectation is that grass will not be the height of hay; it is intended to be more of an area to play around on the grass; the area off to the edge where the slope is will be where the wildflowers and the longer grass will be position.
Hope this helps.
I do know how concerning this is to the community; again thank you for your patience.

Thank you for the information Elizabeth.
It just seems like it is taking way to long!!! If we have the go ahead I am all for going over and chopping away at the weeds. Who else is in???
When my taxes cheque gets cashed on the 15th I will sit back and wonder what it is going to????
