Does anyone know what is intended for the Parkette at the end of Lighthouse? They "planted" it with what we thought was grass, and now it is clearly weeds and wildflowers (read: weeds). And when will they open it and fix it up? It has been an eyesore for years, and the recent "improvements" have not helped at all. Just love the pretty orange fence around it. You'd think that with the taxes we pay, we wouldn't have to deal with this for what has now been 10 years and counting.
Thank you Elizabeth. I noticed this morning, that they are starting to dig in the area of the apex. Perhaps this is in preparation for the benches? Whatever seed mix they used, right or wrong, has certainly taken, but it still looks like weeds to me.
The weeds/wildflowers seem a little LARGE and out of place if you ask me and some others I have been talking to. If one was sitting on the bench (is it even there yet?) there wouldn't be much of a view - besides tall weeds/wildflowers. I guess the intention was not to be able to walk on the open area, or make it useful to families - as it would require "bushwhacking", not to mention lots of prickly bushes cutting ones legs! A picnic is surely out of the question!!! We personally don't think it fits in, looks much like an eye-sore right now... the conservation area looks a lot more appealing and maintained, and it fits in, because it is a little more removed from the housing and is somewhat part of the water frontage - where as this parkette, we thought was to be part of the neighbourhood - a place for families to go and play catch, picnic, enjoy the grass etc.... Does anyone know if they plan to trim/cut/mow this area anytime soon - oh.. and remove the gorgeous fencing?
Very true Brian... it would be nice if Elizabeth could respond to our concerns and questions regarding the "Parkette" or shall we say JUNGLE!!!

It is obvious our tax dollars are not going towards keeping it maintained. If there were already weeds there - why did they choose to re-seed it with more weeds?

I am happy to see/read that I am not the only one with concerns and disappointment over this.
Thank you for the information Elizabeth.

It just seems like it is taking way to long!!! If we have the go ahead I am all for going over and chopping away at the weeds. Who else is in???

When my taxes cheque gets cashed on the 15th I will sit back and wonder what it is going to????

Hello Hawk;  Please hold off on the chopping away of the weeds.  Staff in parks and recreation have confirmed with me that the landscaper is to be back on site Monday Sept 8th.

As for the height of the grass the expectation is that grass will not be the height of hay; it is intended to be more of an area to play around on the grass;  the area off to the edge where the slope is will be where the wildflowers and the longer grass will be position.

Hope this helps.
I do know how concerning this is to the community; again thank you for your patience.

Thank you Elizabeth, and the comments from everyone else.  I walked in there yesterday, and though I am 5'3" tall, I could barely see over the weeds whilst in the middle of it.  So if you are sitting on the benches there, you cannot see anything.  And the weeds are now encompassing the orange fence, which should be a real treat to take down.  I would love to see a controlled burn, as where would one put the detritus once it is cut down?  This has been a 10 year long joke, and I'm not laughing any more.  We'll watch with interest to see what happens on September 8th.Big Grin

Something I don't understand is about that orange fence. Why the park is still fenced?
I agree - even the plain mud is a huge improvement over what was there. And they have straightened up the fence, so it looks as if they have plans - oh joy! I might even sit on the bench, if I can vault the fence!
