Has anybody tried the new restaurant in the plaza (Annies' Eggworks)? I'm interested in hearing any reviews.

We have and I hesitate to say anything. We really want it to do well because its wonderful to have a place so close. We were a little disappointed, but lets hope it was because they are so new. Bacon was really under cooked and the home fries were ice cold (only one other table so it wasn't because they were rushed off their feet). On the possitive side, it was nice and clean and the server was very friendly. Prices are competitive and there are some interesting menu choices. We will definitely try again.

I have not tried Annie's yet...to be honest, didn't even realize it had opened until friends of ours from the neighbourhood told us yesterday.

They had gone there for breakfast last week, and seemed to really enjoy it.

Truth be told, I am still working under the glow of the fact that Cora's finally opened in Durham. As an ex-Montrealer, I was ecstatic to see them finally open a franchise in Durham.

We have made the trip over to Pickering numerous times since they opened, and unless the permanent line-up there gets too tiring, we will likely stick with them for our breakfast outings. Nobody can top Cora's selection and imagination!

However, I have been patiently waiting for Annie's to open for a while now, and will definitely give it a shot!

If you haven't tried the Lakeside Restaurant on Brock St., south of Victoria StT., you should give that a try!!!!

We have tried that place a handful of times over the past few years, and I would say that I found it to be inconsistent.

At times, we have had fast service and good, hot food....other times, we have found it to be ridiculously slow and your food is cool/cold.

My sense is that they are not swamped too often, and when it gets busy, they seem a bit overwhelmed.

That having been said, I do like trying to support local small businesses at times, and will continue to go there on occassion, as well as trying Annie's!

Cheers

I agree. Now we need a nice pub in the empty corner of the new plaze. One that'll attract the older crowd to go for friendy neighbourhood pint !!!

You said it! With the gas station going in, and the school in the works, I think the pub (with a nice patio, please!) will be the last thing to make things complete!

Lakeside Grill has a wonderful brunch menu - used it last summer for our guests after our son's wedding and they were terrific. A diamond in the rough..... They could use a little competition to keep things interesting.........

Interesting choices for a "complete" combination ... school, gas station & pub ... reminds me when Willie and Waylon sang "Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountain mornings, little warm puppies and children and girls of the night"

We made our first visit to Annie's last Saturday, and we would have to give it a mixed review. They were full, with a small line-up from time-to-time while we were there.

My food was really good (it was called something like "English Muffin under stress"), but my wife didn't care for the potatoes or the weird drizzle stuff that they put on the side of your plate!

On the plus side, the staff were friendly, and our food arrived fairly quickly and was warm.

The big negative that we noted was...it is sooooooo noisy that you could barely hear yourself think, let alone carry on a conversation! Not sure if it is the high walls/ceiling (they don't have a false ceiling or anything) or what, but it was brutal. If you are planning for a quiet breakfast and to chat, you would likely be better at Lakeside Grill or something.

Overall, I would give Annie's 3.5 stars out of 5.....we would go again, but not a weekly visit.
Still not impressed - I ordered exactly the same thing as I did the last time I went. Still not what was on the menu and it was cold and the toast looked like it had never seen the outside of a toaster let alone the inside.

Got a discount but that's not the point. They could have a little gold mine there if they pay attention to this stuff - otherwise they will lose all their customers - not sure if we will go again.
Sorry, I disagree about the pub.  I'd rather there not be a pub in that empty corner of the plaza (northwest) as it sits RIGHT behind my garden fence.  I know it'd be great to have a good restaurant in the plaza, but it'd be far better IMHO to have it go into the large empty unit at the east end of the plaza.

Re Annie's. We had a good breakfast in there the one time we went. But, we went back on another day to get takeout and the young boy (and i mean 'boy') at the front desk didn't have a clue. We ended up walking out and driving over to Sunset Grill (401/Brock St.) where they were happy to take our money and give us fabulous takeout.
