If you haven't tried the Lakeside Restaurant on Brock St., south of Victoria StT., you should give that a try!!!!

I have not tried Annie's yet...to be honest, didn't even realize it had opened until friends of ours from the neighbourhood told us yesterday.
They had gone there for breakfast last week, and seemed to really enjoy it.
Truth be told, I am still working under the glow of the fact that Cora's finally opened in Durham. As an ex-Montrealer, I was ecstatic to see them finally open a franchise in Durham.
We have made the trip over to Pickering numerous times since they opened, and unless the permanent line-up there gets too tiring, we will likely stick with them for our breakfast outings. Nobody can top Cora's selection and imagination!
However, I have been patiently waiting for Annie's to open for a while now, and will definitely give it a shot!

I agree. Now we need a nice pub in the empty corner of the new plaze. One that'll attract the older crowd to go for friendy neighbourhood pint !!!

We have tried that place a handful of times over the past few years, and I would say that I found it to be inconsistent.
At times, we have had fast service and good, hot food....other times, we have found it to be ridiculously slow and your food is cool/cold.
My sense is that they are not swamped too often, and when it gets busy, they seem a bit overwhelmed.
That having been said, I do like trying to support local small businesses at times, and will continue to go there on occassion, as well as trying Annie's!
Cheers

Here is my review from this morning:
GOOD:
- Location
- Fast/Friendly Staff
Bad:
- Food. I'm really sorry but the food arrived mild warm and the included fruits were tasteless (even the ones in season). Home fries were terrible - made from old potatoes, very dry and with thick skins.
- Prices. If you go outside standard breakfast (eggs, toast, some meat) it gets pricy rather quickly. We paid almost 60 bucks for 3 adults and 2 kids.
The decor was OK but nothing amazing
I will obviously give them another chance and blame the first trip on the growing pains. Their choice of hours is also strange (7-3). I guess they don't care about people like me, walking to the GO station before seven o'clock. I think if they went with 6:30 instead, they would catch a few of us.
On the more positive side, it looks like something is stirring on the vacant, corner location. They just poured new concrete floor so let's hope it's a sign of a new tenant. Like people before me, I would love a decent pub.

You said it! With the gas station going in, and the school in the works, I think the pub (with a nice patio, please!) will be the last thing to make things complete!
Interesting choices for a "complete" combination ... school, gas station & pub ... reminds me when Willie and Waylon sang "Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountain mornings, little warm puppies and children and girls of the night"

My partner and I went to Annie's last weekend and thought the (standard) breakfast was wonderful! There's only so much one can do with eggs, bacon and potato ... but our food arrived at a suitable temperature, the eggs were cooked as ordered (over easy), the rye toast was fresh, sausage was not overcooked, and the potatos were perfect. In fact, the most impressive thing was a complete lack of grease on the plate. The chef came around to make sure everyone was satisfied with their meals, and our server was prompt and attentive.
The huge walls on either side of the restaurant could probably use HUGE art pieces or murals (due to the height of the ceiling), but the tables and chairs were comfortable and maybe a little better quality than I've seen at other local "greasy spoons".
I should add that a few ago we had exactly the opposite experience at Cora in Pickering ... the meal was lukewarm, and eggs very, very rubbery. I'm not sure if that meant they were old, but we both were disappointed because we'd heard all the hype. Also strange - Cora's menu doesn't list an extra order of toast as a side on it's menu, but they have all kinds of other unexpected sides listed. I would have thought that an order of toast is a common thing.
I'm looking forward to trying one of the other more international breakfasts at Annie's.
And if anyone at Annie's reads this - your "Please wait to be seated" sign is missed by almost everyone who walks in (and consequently seats themselves). Put it where people will trip over it/bang into it - it should be the first thing people see when they enter.

Hi ABritGal,
When I said empty corner, I did mean the empty unit at the east end of the plaza.

Sorry, I disagree about the pub. I'd rather there not be a pub in that empty corner of the plaza (northwest) as it sits RIGHT behind my garden fence. I know it'd be great to have a good restaurant in the plaza, but it'd be far better IMHO to have it go into the large empty unit at the east end of the plaza.
Re Annie's. We had a good breakfast in there the one time we went. But, we went back on another day to get takeout and the young boy (and i mean 'boy') at the front desk didn't have a clue. We ended up walking out and driving over to Sunset Grill (401/Brock St.) where they were happy to take our money and give us fabulous takeout.

A pub would be great.... however I have feeling we will never get one??? In the meantime let's not forget that there is one across the street attached to the Arena...perhaps we should have a WS gathering there at some point soon?!?!?

I think the corner unit is going to be a burger joint

All three of them? That's unfortunate! I wonder for how long. What about the Hockey Guys ? I'm surprised they kept the store closed for so long with the sign still hanging - it's possible they are really struggling to find a replacement.
