I've become saddened by this trend as of late .... The Skydome became The Rogers Centre, The Paramount Theatre became The ScotiaBank Theatre, The Hummingbird Centre became the Sony Centre, A&P and Dominion are becoming Metro.
Ahh well. Thanks for letting me rant.
Jabber.

Now if they would open some Super C stores here, I would right at home.
Sad to see the A&P name go... good memories here as a kid I vividly remember shopping with my parents every week at the A&P store at the Corner of Jeanne-Manace & Sherbrooke. It had two entrances one on Park Ave and the other on Jeanne-Mance. That was in the late 70's and 80's.
Ironically, anyone here from Quebec who is old enough to remember (aging myself here!) will know that this is not the first time we will be witnessing the disappearance of the "Dominion" name.
Back in the day (80's, I would guess), Dominion in Quebec got bought out, and the stores got converted to the "Provigo" name. It was actually kind of refreshing when I moved to Ontario in the 90s to see that Dominion logo again!
I will definitely be interested to see what changes, other than cosmetic, this might bring to our local store. As things have settled in after their opening last winter, I do wonder about the long-term feasibility of this store, especially with the 24-hr model.
I do not pretend to be a grocery-store expert, however, what I have noted so far is:
- the store never seems to have that "busy" feel to it....I do not think I have ever waited in line for a cashier to serve me.
- Most people (myself included) appear to be popping in for a few items, as opposed to doing their weekly groceries
As I have stated before, I would love to do my weekly grocery run in our neighbourhood, however, given their prices, I cannot bring myself to do it. If it was a matter of a few bucks here and there, I could swallow it. However, I truly believe that in a typical week, if I bought all the same items there that I buy at Superstore, I would be forking over at least an extra $20 or more.
Let's see what happens as it becomes a Metro store!
The article I read in the Star quoted one of the company's executives saying that this move should reduce costs in the long run.
I remember the Miracle Mart department store in Scarborough Town Centre... but that's going back a few years; I think by the time Sunday shopping was legalized (1991-1992) it had long since closed.
So I guess next you will tell me that you used to eat at Bar-B-Barn and Ponderosa, hung out with the crowd at Pinocchio's, and shopped at Cumberland's and Toyville.
