Full Version: Tragedy In The Works...Disregarding Stop Signs

We fail to understand why so many residents completely disregard STOP signs when the community is full of children?

It's one thing to not completely STOP at an intersection, but to not even slow down to check for cars or kids is another -- it happens repeatedly every day. Excessive speeding on our streets is concerning enough but through the intersections is quite another.

For the most part, we seem to care about our great community, but oddly some of us don't seem to care about the safety of those within it.

If public safety isn't more valued, unfortunately it's a matter of "when" not "if" so let's please think safety first.
Bears,

I completely agree with what you are saying! I have myself witnessed many drivers who just completely disregard the fact that our community has any stop signs at all.

One was as recently as last week and right by the park (Seaboard and Portage). He almost ran over an elderly gentleman and his dog, so I honked at the goof, then circled the block to find him parked in his driveway of his house on Portage. I then proceeded to copy down his plate number and address and reported him to Road Watch Shy

Stop signs are put in place for a reason, and should be respected at all hours of the day and night. I would hate to see something terrible happen before these people see the light (if they ever do).
It's inexcusable. I mean, what exactly can you use as an excuse for driving through a STOP sign???? "I'm really busy"..."i was on my cell and wasn't paying attention"...."There was nobody around"..."get off my case, i know what i'm doing"....and on and on it goes.

We are at crisis level with regards to bad/selfish drivers. The carnage is there for anybody to see every day. Even a tragedy sometimes fails to turn a selfish imbecile into a responsible human being.

Road Watch is a step in the right direction but it puts fear into nobody. What irresponsible people need is something to fear. 6 demerit points and a 1 month suspension is a good start in my humble opinion. Sounds harsh but something has to be done and done soon.

BTW, good for you. If everybody did their part as you have done, we might be able to prevent the loss of sombody's life in WS.

Post the address and plate number here.

If you can believe it, I saw the same person drive through the same stop sign just the other day. I actually saw him coming, so I pulled off and parked my car for a second. Sure enough, he didn't even bother to stop Sad

I would be more than happy to post his info here, but I'm not sure of the board rules allow for it.

Vigilante "justice" is the most fun type of justice, but on behalf of everyone who owns a car similar to the one you spotted, I'd suggest you restrain yourself from posting... unless you actually followed the guy from the stop sign to his house without ever losing sight of the car once.

You wouldn't have tried to track him down later and just assumed that the car you spotted in a driveway was the one you saw before, right?  Wink

Edit: Running stop signs bugs me as much as the next person, if not more, but I'd hate for you to go to all the bother of sharpening your pitchforks for the wrong guy. If the Road Watch letter didn't do the trick, maybe try calmly talking to the guy in person rather than posting his personal information online.

I would post it if you saw him and didnt loose sight of him. You can PM me so I can make sure I watch out for that specific car. License plates are there for everyone to see. If someone saw me run a stop sign I would have no problem getting called on it....
No, I never lost sight of him! He ran the same stop sign twice (Portage and Seaboard) and he lives Right on Portage. It really wasn't all that hard to follow/Watch him pull into his drive way and go inside his house!
I was not inviting "vigilantism" Jeff. I just figured that if we post the make of car and the plate number, these people will be more careful in the future. I don't expect people to go to their house and take the law into their own hands.
