I am writing you asking if you are able to make a donation (personal or corporate), donate merchandise or a gift certificate for a golf tournament to benefit The SickKids Hospital.  Any help is appreciated.

Very close friends of mine, and members of the Whitby Shores Community, Kevin and Kathryn Cormier, people I consider part of my family, are currently being challenged as they recently lost the daughter, Bryce, on June 24, 2007.  Bryce was 2.5 years old.

Kevin and Kathryn Cormier, Bryce’s parents, have been friends of Cathy, my wife, since High School and a friend of mine for 8 years.  Both Cathy and Kathryn have been in each other wedding parties and Kathryn is my daughter’s Godmother.  The fact that Kevin and Kathryn consider Cathy and I their friends is one thing, but Kevin and Kathryn are also our neighbours in the Whitby Shores Community.  Can you imagine having your best friends living next door?

Kevin and Kathryn proudly brought their daughter, Bryce, into the world February 8, 2005, but not without some complications.  Bryce was born with a congenital heart defect and surgery to repair the defect was inevitable.  It wasn’t until July of 2006 that the surgery took place.  This was long enough for Bryce to get strong and survive the surgery.  The surgery initially went well but Bryce went into cardiac arrest within 24 hours and also suffered a stroke, with long term effects not known.  Bryce overcame these two setbacks with no aftereffects, but it was deemed that her best chance at survival was to have a heart transplant.  This was made available in February 2007 (see link 1).

Bryce’s recovery was going well as she was getting bigger and developing as a normal child should.  Talking, dancing and going to Canada’s Wonderland with her “buds”, my kids, Payton and Nolan (Nolan is same age as Bryce, save for 3 months).  On June 24, 2007 Kevin and Kathryn’s world crashed and ours was turned upside-down as Bryce stopped breathing at home.  (see link 2)

Even before Bryce’s passing, Kevin, Kathryn and close friends had the wheels in motion to put together a golf tournament to benefit The SickKids Hospital for all the help and care it provided Bryce and the Cormiers during their many months at the hospital.  The funds are for The SickKids Hospital and the Cormiers are using Bryce’s memory, and story, as the “lightening rod” to bring friends, family and others together for a great cause.  It is tagged, “Drive to Survive” and is scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 2007, at the Oakridge Golf Course.  Cost is $160. with $55. of that being a donation to SickKids for which a Tax Receipt will be issued by SickKids.  The balance of the cost is for the golf, cart, great dinner, opportiunity for prizes and the satisfaction of helping a great cause.

If are unable to assist, please do not feel an explanation is warranted, the fact you spent the time to read and know Bryce’s story is enough.

If you are able to assist, you’d be giving the tournament even more validity and exposure, while at the same time further strengthening  community participation.  Program recognition will be given to all donors.

We’d like you to be part of this experience from the beginning.

Thanks.  Please PM me should you require more info.
