Any news about the school? Also safety concern.
Hi everybody. Does someone have any news about the school? I would like to know what are the plans for the school, when will construction start, more details. Also, I am a bit concerned about safety: many schools I've been before, have the entrance door located in places that can't be monitored by the staff. What I mean is that anybody can enter the school without being noticed. I would like this point to be considered when the plans for the school start, if they have not been developed yet, considering the proximity of the Mental Health Hospital and people from there going around in the neighborhood.

Our community will be consulted when the first plans are ready. They are expected to be ready in the next couple of months or so. Construction is suppose to start towards end of year.

I heard through the grapevine that the school opening has been delayed. Is there any truth to this?

Considering the economic situation and all that "infrastructure" money floating around, would it not be logical to start construction ASAP?

People needs jobs, and it would boost the local economy.

The DDSB has received the funds from Min Of Education so the financial risk should be minimal. Last when I spoke with our trustee, John Dolstra, there were no delays. On the DDSB web site, there's a Jan 19/09 update and indicates a project occupancy date of Sept/2010: http://www.ddsb.durham.edu.on.ca/html/Ac...9_2009.pdf

We moved here in 1998 when my son was 7 years old. That was a selling feature....no more driving to school, daycares, buses. Well he is now 17 and off to University next year. At this point, I'd rather see them put in more homes.

RE: Any news about the school? Also safety concern.
So sorry to hear that the school came too late for you and your family, Spot. We are new to Whitby Shores and moved after hearing that a school was approved for the area. We had always liked the area, but were hesitant to move here without committment towards the school. We have two kids who are not yet in school. I want you to know that we are truly grateful for all those who fought for this school. I feel badly that we will reap the benefits yet were not part of the fight. Please know that the efforts of those who battled to have this school approved do not go unnoticed.
